I have to admit, when the crew came to me and asked me to sponsor their soccer team, I thought "what a great way to get some exercise, get that 'team spirit' going...". I didn't realize they were actually REALLY GOOD!
The opening game was Friday night, 9/5/08, at the Soccer Central Indoor Soccer Arena at Ramsey Park in Watsonville. Before the game, the crew seemed a little unsure, but...cautiously optimisitic. They kicked a ball around, talked about strategy, and got pumped up for the game. And then, the BUZZER SOUNDED!...
Wasting no time in establishing just who wore the pants, er...shorts on the field, the Cypress Crew scored the first goal within the first minute or two.
Our team was expertly coached by Lauro, a veteran soccer player (and expert carpenter...) with a little help from Javier who yelled instructions and cat-calls from the stands.
At the end of the first quarter, the Cypress Crew led the "red team" 6-to-1!!!
Top scorers for Cypress were Andres, with 4 goals, and Jose, who knocked in 2. Kudos to our excellent goalie, who worked miracles at times - keeping the relentless 'red team' from scoring more than they did.
The second quarter proved more challenging for our boys in orange, as the 'red team' came from behind with 3 more goals. But Cypress was not to be bested, and kept them contained. And by the end of the game, Cypress emerged VICTORIOUS with the final score 6-to-4.
I'm so proud of these guys, not just for winning, but for getting out there and DOING IT! It's a tough sport that you have to be in good shape for - with all the running, the balance, coordination, quick thinking, and team spirit involved.
Here's to a great 2008 season for the CYPRESS CREW!!!

THIS JUST IN... 09/09/08
Last night was the second game for the Cypress Soccer Team in the league, it was also their second win as well. The team asked me (Javier Navarro Jr.) if I could send you some pictures of their intense victory. The game started as a "no doubt" victory for the team. However, the apposing team showed they could compete with the Cypress team. By the second half of the game, the apposing team managed to almost tie the game. the final result of the game was; cypress 4, apposing team 3. It was almost impossible to keep the camera steady because of the speed and effort both teams were showing. It was in impressive match and I hope the Cypress Soccer team keeps up the winning streak.

GAME 3 - Monday 9/15/08 -
The opposition scored early. Wasting no time, they scored 2 goals in the first quarter. But the mighty Cypress Crew came back with a vengance, and brought the score up to Cypress 4 - Others 3, by the end of the first half. The second half kept the momentum going, and the final score, with Cypress Crew on top - 8 to 4!!!
Good job, guys! That's 3 wins and no losses.
GAME 4 - 9/22/08 - A late game (started at 9:40pm) this time. Started off very close and stayed tied 3-3 through most of the game. But in a burst of scoring in the last 2 minutes, the opposition scored 2 goals - final score Cypress Crew 3 - Others 5.
We are now 3 wins/1 loss.

9/29/08 - Cypress wins again! In a sweeping win, Cypress Crew won 12-3.
Birthday boy Jose Garcia scored 3 goals. You go, guys!
OCT 6th - Another big win by the Cypress Crew! Once again pummelling their opponents - 12-2!
OCT 13th - In a real-nail biter, the Cypress Crew lost this one 4-3. The opposition was at the top of their game, and in the last 2 minutes, Cypress almost tied with a goal attempt that narrowly missed. But that's 5 WINS and only 2 LOSSES for the Cypress Crew.
Last game of the season coming up Monday, Oct 20th, at 6:55pm. Be there!
OCTOBER 20th - Last game of the season. The Crew came out strong, and took an early 3-1 lead. But the opposition was relentless in the last few minutes of the game, and squeaked by with a final score of 5-3.
But it was a great first season for the Cypress Crew! 5 big wins and only 3 losses. Way to go, guys!
